Buckbean Brewery!

Reno, NV (April 7th)—Buckbean Brewing Company, Reno’s first production microbrewery and the largest in the Silver State, will be opening the doors to their 7,600 square foot brewing facility and tasting room on April 12th. The tasting room, an intimate “beer” tasting venue similar to what would be found at a winery, will be open Tuesday through Saturday and features Buckbean’s signature Original Orange Blossom Ale and Black Noddy Lager on tap, as well as our seasonal specialty beer—Tule Duck Red Ale. Complimentary tours of the facility will be offered to give visitors a first hand look at the process and mechanics of a large scale brewing operation.

“Having been born and raised here, I want the brewery to be part of the community. We look forward to working with different groups, events, non-profits and becoming Nevada’s local beer,” said Douglas Booth

Buckbean Beer will not only be available at the brewery, but also at local bars, restaurants, and events, and in the near future at stores in cans. Buckbean Brewing Company initially plans to offer beer in both kegs and 64 ounce refillable growlers, but will soon be releasing their Original Orange Blossom Ale and Black Noddy Lager in 16 ounce environmentally friendly cans. The brewery also sells merchandise such as signature glassware, t-shirts and hats.

It’s All in a Name
Buckbean takes its name from the buckbean plant, an herb that grows in the Tahoe Meadows and in mountain bogs throughout North America and Eurasia. Buckbean was a traditional substitute for hops in brewing beer. Daniel plans to experiment using buckbean in crafting some of his specialty releases in the future.

Original Orange Blossom Ale, Black Noddy Lager & Tule Duck Red Ale
• Black Noddy Lager: Bavarian Schwarzbier style lager with deep color, moderate hops and smooth, toasty flavors that unfurl in layers
• Original Orange Blossom Ale: A bright zesty ale built from Munich and caramel malts, American hops and orange flowers
• Tule Duck Red Ale: A deep red, robust ale that combines a silky smooth, rich body with a fruity, cararmel malt flavor and a soft, herbal dry hopped finish.

The icy pure Truckee Meadows snowmelt used to make Buckbean is ideal for brewing.
“The local water is quite soft,” Daniel Kahn said. “It’s nice to have soft water to start with because you can turn it into any water you want. You can replicate the water types of traditional brewing centers. You can’t do that with hard water, which already has a high concentration of dissolved minerals and solids.”
